Where Excuses Go to Die Book Trailer

Quick Bits

Synopsis: 'Where Excuses Go To Die' is a hilarious and poignant coming-of-age story about a ludicrous place where excuses are everywhere and worth nothing. From a child described as "insightful," "creative," and "sensitive" to a teen known as "mouthy," "rebellious," and "misdirected," Nelson needed a serious wake-up call to learn what "too smart for his own good" meant. So maybe it's no surprise he stuck a prop .38 in his waistband and politely robbed a series of chain bookstores, or that California State prison was where his own excuses finally went to die. Nelson uses humor and the eccentricities of an otherwise law-abiding family to set a broader context for his tale. In a memoir that will resonate strongly with those who have struggled up mountains of their own, he examines his mistakes with emotional honesty. Ultimately a tale of triumph over our own worst instincts, Where Excuses Go to Die will leave readers rethinking their own choices on the way to "getting character or becoming one.

Loved the mini stories

The Bottom Line

The trailer for Where Excuses Go to Die by John Espinosa Nelson is great. I wasn’t sure what I’d want to see in a book trailer for a memoir, but I think this book has nailed it. To a male reader the stories seem interesting, eventful, and exciting. I loved how the interviews were personal and slightly humorous  They made me wonder about the story line and what will be happening in the essays within the book.

I believe the actors were real people, who added depth to the trailer. I also liked the prison video clips and sounds provided. I think this was a great book trailer. What did you think? Choose your rating.

About John Espinosa Nelson

Wherever his travels take him, John Espinosa Nelson collects and critiques missing pet flyers under the pseudonym Harmsworth. With measures like Emotional Hook, Coherency Index, and Cheap Shots, John’s penchant for irreverent humor shines in his online treasury, DesperateHousepets.net.

John started writing in prison and never looked back. Upon release, he wrote radio spots, videos, and other promotional material for 2.13.61 Books, Modivation Films, DreamWorks, and Maverick Records. Later credits include articles for Esquire, Details, Players, L.A. Weekly, and web assets like BigWords.com, for which he wrote the advice column, Ask Dr. Hate. A 70’s muscle car restoration hobbyist and Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge owner, John is currently a contributor to Moparmax.com.

After writing for Mattel’s Sound Design Studio, John penned his first annual gala awards shows for U.S. VETS, crafting “voice-of-the-theater” and teleprompter dialogue for luminaries like Governor Gray Davis, Senators John McCain and Max Baucus, Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, and a host of A-, B-, and C-list celebrities. Most memorably, he crafted introductions and award presentations for four of the surviving members of the legendary Easy Company, the 506th Parachute Regiment depicted in the HBO series Band of Brothers.

Based on his work in support of homeless vets, John was invited to write for law enforcement bigwigs at the 2nd Annual California Gold Star Awards a few years later. Many of those honorees have since been indicted.

Today, when he’s not wrestling with Sellouts Are People Too, a novel that’s “400 pages of making fun of drummers,” John works to persuade others not to act on their own worst ideas. He appears regularly in the national media and enjoys speaking engagements at high schools and juvenile facilities.
